Kasambya County MP David Kabanda has stirred fresh political debate after giving an in-depth account of his fallout with former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, during a widely watched interview on YouTube.
Speaking to content creator John Bosco Kisitu, Kabanda alleged that tensions between him and Among were rooted in deep political disagreements within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), particularly surrounding the influence of senior figures close to President Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Kabanda claimed that Among had at one point been skeptical of Gen Muhoozi’s rising political influence, suggesting she initially aligned with factions that underestimated his role within the ruling establishment. He further alleged that internal rivalries within government circles contributed to growing mistrust between them.
The MP narrated several incidents he said reflected political friction, including claims that Among avoided public association with Gen Muhoozi during certain political events, allegedly due to fears of shifting power dynamics within the government.
Kabanda also referenced alleged warnings he received from other legislators, who he said advised him to distance himself from openly supporting Gen Muhoozi at a time when internal tensions were high within the NRM leadership structure.
In the interview, Kabanda insisted he remained loyal to Gen Muhoozi, stating that his political choices were guided by long-standing relationships and strategic alignment within the movement. He dismissed claims that he had turned against former allies for personal gain.
He further accused Among of participating in internal political maneuvers aimed at discrediting him, including what he described as attempts to link him to financial impropriety. Kabanda, however, rejected the allegations, calling them politically motivated and unsubstantiated.
The MP also revisited broader issues of loyalty and betrayal in Ugandan politics, citing historical shifts among senior political figures as examples of how alliances often change within the ruling establishment.
Kabanda concluded by reaffirming his commitment to supporting Gen Muhoozi and defending what he described as the long-term interests of the ruling movement, while maintaining that internal disagreements should not be mistaken for personal hostility.
The remarks have since sparked renewed debate online, with political observers divided over the claims and counterclaims emerging from the interview.
