Kasambya County Member of Parliament David Kabanda has publicly spoken about his strained relationship with former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, offering detailed claims about internal political disagreements within Uganda’s ruling establishment during a recent interview that has since attracted widespread attention.
Appearing on a YouTube program hosted by John Bosco Kisitu, Kabanda reflected on what he described as a gradual breakdown in trust between himself and Among, linking the fallout to broader political tensions involving senior figures in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), including President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Kabanda suggested that differences in political alignment and strategic interests within the ruling party contributed significantly to the breakdown of their working relationship. He alleged that differing views on emerging power structures within government circles played a key role in the friction.
According to Kabanda, some of the disagreements stemmed from what he described as shifting loyalties and competition among influential political actors. He claimed that at different points, individuals within the system had varying perceptions about the role and influence of Gen Muhoozi within Uganda’s political future.
The legislator further alleged that Anita Among, at certain moments, maintained political positions that were not aligned with his own support for Gen Muhoozi’s leadership role. However, these claims remain Kabanda’s personal account and have not been independently verified.
During the interview, Kabanda also recounted specific incidents he believes demonstrated growing mistrust between the two politicians. He suggested that in some political settings, Among was cautious about public association with certain figures, which he interpreted as a reflection of internal political calculations at the time.
Kabanda further stated that he had been warned by some colleagues within Parliament to be careful about openly expressing his political stance in relation to emerging leadership dynamics. He said these warnings reflected broader uncertainty among some legislators about shifting alliances within the ruling party.
Despite the tensions he described, Kabanda insisted that his political decisions were guided by loyalty and long-term strategic considerations within the NRM structure. He emphasized that his support for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was based on what he called a long-standing working relationship and political alignment.
He rejected suggestions that his public positions were motivated by personal gain or opportunism, arguing instead that his actions were consistent with his political beliefs and associations within the ruling establishment.
Kabanda also addressed claims that he had been involved in efforts to undermine Anita Among politically. He dismissed these allegations, stating that they were politically motivated and intended to damage his reputation. He did not, however, provide independent documentation to support his counterclaims during the interview.
In addition, Kabanda referenced broader issues of loyalty within Uganda’s political system, arguing that political alliances often shift depending on changing circumstances. He cited historical examples within the NRM where senior figures had moved between different political camps over time.
The MP also discussed what he described as internal disagreements surrounding leadership transitions and influence within Parliament and the wider government structure. He suggested that such disputes are not unusual in competitive political environments.
Kabanda further claimed that attempts had been made to portray him negatively within political circles, though he did not name specific individuals beyond general references. He maintained that such efforts were part of broader political competition rather than personal conflict alone.
Throughout the interview, Kabanda repeatedly emphasized his loyalty to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, describing him as a key figure in his political journey. He stated that his support for Muhoozi was rooted in long-term association and shared political objectives.
Political observers note that Kabanda’s remarks come at a time when internal dynamics within the ruling party continue to attract public interest, particularly regarding succession debates and emerging political blocs.
However, analysts also caution that many of the claims made in politically charged interviews reflect personal perspectives and may not represent verified facts. They emphasize the importance of treating such statements as individual accounts unless corroborated by independent evidence.
As of now, Anita Among has not issued a detailed public response to Kabanda’s latest remarks. It remains unclear whether she will address the specific allegations raised in the interview.
The discussion has nonetheless sparked renewed debate on social media, with supporters and critics of both figures interpreting the comments in different ways. Some view the revelations as indicative of deeper political divisions, while others see them as part of routine political disagreements common within Uganda’s leadership structures.
Kabanda concluded his remarks by reaffirming his commitment to his political principles and his support for Gen Muhoozi, while insisting that internal disputes should not be misinterpreted as personal hostility.
The interview continues to circulate widely online, adding to ongoing conversations about loyalty, power dynamics, and internal competition within Uganda’s political elite.
